 Reminders:

- This week is Teachers' Convention - there will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, February 11th and Friday February 12th.

- Monday, February 15th is Family Day - NO SCHOOL - we will see you all back at school on Tuesday, February 16th.

- we will not be exchanging valentines this year

Highlights from our day:

- we had and exciting presentation from Earth Rangers today and learned about animal conservation and how to take care of the earth. Here is a link if you'd like to find out more about Earth Rangers:

- We are focusing on building friendship skills this week at school and are using our literacy time to read books aloud and do some writing. Mrs. Bowles' class read, My Mouth is a Volcano and learned about how once we say something unkind, it's hard to take those words back, (just like you can't get the toothpaste back into a tube of toothpaste) so it's important to think about other people's feelings before we say things that may be hurtful. Mrs. Campbell's class read How to Lose your Friends, and then created little mini books over the last couple of day about how to keep your friends. Students brought them home today. Mr. Kai's class and Mrs. Campbell's class will be working on the My Mouth is a Volcano lesson tomorrow.

  Peace Group Celebrates Pink Shirt Day Our Peace Group Friends came to school in lots of PINK today.  Thank you to all of our families for helping us recognize this great cause.  If you would like to know the origins of this important day, please watch the video below: Mrs. Campbell's class showing that they stand up to bullying! Our morning went by very quickly.  Each group doing their literacy and math.  In Mr. Kai's and Mrs. Bowles' groups they continue to work on their final drafts of their personal choice of Walking Stories.  We are working on the revising and polishing components of the writing process. In math we are all working on representing numbers to 20 (required for grade one) and to 100.  We are learning this concept through estimating, games and Math Talk activities.  You can play the game at home with smaller objects.   Long piece of spaghetti  can be used as a ten rod and macaroni pieces can be used as one units. ...
