One More Day Until Spring Break! But Who's Counting?

  Why was the Easter egg hiding? As the days begin to wind down with Spring Break around the corner, the members of the Peace Group are busy little beavers.  We continue to work on nonfiction reading and writing during our literacy time.  Our "How To..." final drafts are coming along nicely.  We will be excited to share them with you in the future. In math, we continue to work on addition and subtraction strategies.  Some of us have been writing some word problems, while others are learning about how doubles are an easy strategy for learning our facts.  We played a game called Snowman Bump. If you and your child want to play there are many options on the web for game boards.   Science continues to be a favourtite learning experience as we experiment with how to build a boat.  Mrs. Campbell's group worked on how sails help our vessels move, while Bowles Bunch and Kai Kids, looked at propellers Each household should have received a message from CBE concerning Spring Break a

 Reminders: Spring Break is March 29th to April 5th. Classes resume April 6th Fun snack is Thursday (tomorrow) Highlights from our Day: Students in Mrs. Campbell's class worked on:  creating word story problems with more detail today  playing a math game called Rainbow Bump, which involves addition and strategy skills continued to work on developing friendship skills by playing 'Find a Friend Bingo' Mrs. Ashworth taught a Roots of Empathy lesson Mr. Kai and Mrs. Bowles' classes worked on: creating good copies of their 'How To' writing exploration different strategies for adding like making 10 and knowing doubles facts Mrs. Bowles' class had Music, while Mr. Kai's class had a friendship building lesson in health Mrs. Ashworth taught a Roots of Empathy lesson

Sorry for the late post...  Reminders: Wednesday is INSPIRATIONAL T-SHIRT DAY! If you have a shirt or sweater with a positive message - wear it tomorrow for spirit day! Our school EHS shirt is a great one too - it says, Building Peaceful Communities Together - right on it!! Thursday is FUN SNACK day! Friday is our last day of school before SPRING BREAK! Highlights from our day: In math Mrs. Campbell's class solved the Cookie Monster problem and put their problem solving skills to the test! They also read If You Were a Plus Sign and began to write addition story problems The Cookie Monster problem If You Were a Plus Sign - read aloud In literacy today, students practiced some different word sorts. Mrs. Campbell's class will be bringing home word work this week.  Our Day:  Today, we continued our Instructional writing. We're writing step-by-step instructions for things that we know how to do! Ask your child what they're writing instructions for!  In Math, we continued work on addition and subtraction working with "one more" and "one less".  In Science, Mrs. Campbell's class began work on their propellers. They had lots of fun using them in the water! Mr. Kai and Mrs. Bowles' class created a chart to list the pros and cons of building materials for boats. Lana Lizard says 'hello'!

 Our Day:  Mrs. Bowles' and Mr. Kai's classes went on a coulee walk! We read "My Map Book" by Sara Fanelli and drew our own maps of the coulee as we explored the area.  Mrs. Campbell's class did a similar mapping activity for the school playground and compound.  We then ended the day with a read-aloud and Gratitude Circle. Ask your child what they are grateful for!

 Reminders: We are heading to the coulee for part of the morning tomorrow. Please come with good footwear appropriate for walking tomorrow and a coat that will keep you warm.  Tomorrow is the last day for the book fair Library book exchange is also tomorrow Highlights from our day: We continued on with literacy, working on writing, word work and guided reading. Mrs. Campbell's class had music today. Please check out Mrs. Coulson's music blog to learn more about what is happening in the music room In math we are working on word problems. We are building math sentences, and showing our understanding using manipulatives and pictures.  In Social studies we used loose parts and drawings to tell a story of how a town or city begins to develop Mr. Kai and Mrs. Bowles' class used different material to build boats with. Ask what worked best!

Reminders: Upcoming Coulee Walk: We would like to go on a coulee walk this Friday as the weather is supposed to be really nice! Please ensure that your child comes to school on Friday with warm clothes (jacket, gloves, hat), an extra pair of socks, extra masks, and a pocketable snack.  Don't forget to check out our virtual book fair. The last day to order is March 19th We had a practice fire drill today The students looked great in their animal costumes and St. Patrick's day green! Highlights: We continued with our how to instructional writing today. Students choose a topic and drew pictures to depict what they are going to give instructions to do. We had baby visits in Roots of Empathy today. Ask about how the baby is changing and growing. In math we continued explored writing simple addition and subtraction word problems based on picture prompts Students loved the gymnastics centres in gym today!

Tomorrow is Dress Like an Animal Day! And St. Patrick's Day!

What are two days of the week that start with the letter "T"  that aren't Tuesday and Wednesday? Read to the bottom of the blog for the answer We think that daylight savings time effects are hitting the Peace Group.  We are finding it challenging to make it to the end of the day.  I am sure it will get better as the week progresses. We continue to read and write nonfiction during literacy.  In Mr. Kai's and Mrs. Bowles' class, they have been using nonfiction books during our Read to Self time.  We are also using our nonfiction skills in writing. We are writing "How to" instructions.  Today we were writing about Getting Ready for School. We focused on using "Pro Tip Words."  This are important information tips that we can add to our "How To" writing that make it more clear for the reader.  These words are:  Always, Never, Try to, Remember to, Be careful to, and be careful not to.."
