Reminders:

  • we are seeing lots of little toys coming from home - please keep toys at home or in backpacks if they are being sent for after school care
  • extra masks are always useful if possible
  • return library books - book exchange is tomorrow
  • WE ARE GOING ON A COMMUNITY WALK TOMORROW. PLEASE BRING WARM CLOTHING (weather permitting)



Highlights from our day:

We continued to work our number building skills, being challenged to  numbers using different combinations of only 8 base 10 blocks. What numbers do you see here?

  


Science- our challenge in science was to build a boat that could carry a load. We had to be able to construct a boat that could float using only plasticine and then see how much mass it could carry. Students showed incredible perseverance and innovation!






Spreading Kindness- Mrs. Campbell's class designed t-shirts for pink shirt day with messages of peace and kindness.

Reminders: Tomorrow is: Hats On! for Mental Health Day On the first Wednesday in May, Albertans are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health. Participating schools will relax their hat rules and encourage students and teachers to build understanding by wearing hats to school. WE ARE GOING FOR A COULEE WALK ON THURSDAY MORNING. PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER AND PACK A POCKET SNACK! HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR DAY: Mrs. Campbell's class focused their inquiry time around a mystery bone that Ms. Huebner's class found in the coulee. They hypothesized what animal it could be from, what could have happened to it and why it was in the coulee. They recorded the information in their field journals Mr. Kai's class continued to work on their persuasive writing and went to Music class. They also got some new words for word work today.  Reminders: We are going on a coulee walk Thursday morning. Please dress for the weather! Please bring all learning materials back to school - i.e visual journals, coulee school work that was produced, coulee school folders etc.  Highlights from our day: We were so happy to see everyone back at school today!  Students loved the SPARK video shared at lunch in the Kai/Bowles room today, try it out at home! https://youtu.be/yFUvg7mkKCM Coulee school highlights: Mrs. Campbell's class investigated Head Smashed In Buffalo  - Pisskan (in Blackfoot) Jump with Mrs. Bowles. Mrs. Bowles' class started the rough draft of their persuasive writing on why it is important to protect green spaces such as the coulee, with Mr. Kai.  Mr. Kai's class learned about Jack Rabbits, with Mrs. Campbell. We found they are actually hares and not rabbits! Hares and rabbits are actually quite different species.

Thursday, June 11, 2021 Coulee Walk Day

Welcome to the second last Thursday of this school year! Our Coulee Walks continue to be a highlight of the week.  All three groups went to a new location: Mr. Kai's Class went to below the Sunning Buffalo and to the tipi circle with Mrs. Bowles.  We noticed a few things that the other groups didn't - the stream is really low and there are millions of ants in the coulee. Mrs. Bowles' Class went to the Duck Pond. We went on a wetland scavenger hunt and read the book, Looking Closely Around the Pond. We saw a baby duck. No muskrat this time. Mrs. Campbell's Class went to the lower coulee. We sat in our sit spots and investigated nature around us. Having the opportunity to see different locations and learn about each of them with our own set of eyes and and the perspective that we are focusing on during our in class learning.
