 Reminders:

  • Peace Pod is heading out for a coulee walk tomorrow morning! We had originally planned to go Monday afternoon, but due to the change in weather we had decided to postpone until Wednesday morning

Highlights from our Day
  • In Math we are working on mental math strategies to for addition and subtraction for math facts to 18. Classes worked in small groups working on strategies such as using addition for subtraction and using a number line to count back when numbers are close neighbours
  • Writing and inquiry are being integrated through our coulee school study.  The biologists are researching different animals that live in the coulee and learning how to create a nature journal, the environmentalists are learning about stewardship and how to take care of the coulee and the historians are taking on a historical perspective learning about who how the coulee influenced the lives of the Indigenous peoples living there years ago
  • We are continuing on in reading in small groups, participating in literacy and word work centres
  • This week the students are drumming in Music class

 Happy Thursday Peace Group Learners and Families This is my first official blog after returning to Eric Harvie School full-time.   My apologies for missing the blog yesterday. Transitions can be a challenge. Today was a packed day full of learning for all of the Peace Group.  All of the students continue to work on developing their writing. We are all working on "Walking Stories" these are stories that are about themselves. We have focused on our memories.  A "Walking Story's" main character is the student. It is all about a person, place or thing that your child knows a lot about.  We have been using a variety of planning techniques. The students are also learning how to revise their writing by adding "Triple Scoop" words, interesting details and looking at using our "No Excuse" word lists for editing. Happy Pink Shirt Day! February 24, 2021

  Peace Group Celebrates Pink Shirt Day Our Peace Group Friends came to school in lots of PINK today.  Thank you to all of our families for helping us recognize this great cause.  If you would like to know the origins of this important day, please watch the video below: Mrs. Campbell's class showing that they stand up to bullying! Our morning went by very quickly.  Each group doing their literacy and math.  In Mr. Kai's and Mrs. Bowles' groups they continue to work on their final drafts of their personal choice of Walking Stories.  We are working on the revising and polishing components of the writing process. In math we are all working on representing numbers to 20 (required for grade one) and to 100.  We are learning this concept through estimating, games and Math Talk activities.  You can play the game at home with smaller objects.   Long piece of spaghetti  can be used as a ten rod and macaroni pieces can be used as one units. ...
